Latest News

We have recently published an article concerning functionalized carbosilane dendrimers for siRNA delivery. Three new series of cationic dendritic nanocarriers were synthesized and tested, including glycodendrimers.

Our students, Martin Kurfiřt, Aleš Krčil and Anna Velebová participated in the international conference: Liblice 2024 – 58th Advances in Organic, Bioorganic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The students presented work focused on the synthesis of new carbohydrate derivatives and the study of their interaction with human galectins. Student Anna Velebová won The Otakar Červinka Prize for the best poster. Congratulations!

We have published a study on ferrocene-modified thiodigalactoside inhibitors of galectins 1 and 3. The study shows that introducing a ferrocenyl-triazole motif highly favors binding to human galectin-1 and disfavors binding to human galectin-3.
***

We have recently published an article concerning study of the type-2 N-acetyllactosamine using the complete series of its monodeoxyfluorinated analogs. The study in the prestigious Journal of Organic Chemistry elucidates the role of individual hydroxyl groups in its conformational behavior.

Karolína Salvadori a Ph.D. student from our group, won the Jean-Marie Lehn Prize for the best student research work in chemistry, coming in first place. This prize is jointly organized by the French Embassy in Prague and the IOCB Tech Foundation and rewards doctoral theses of Czech students. Karolína impressed the jury with her excellent thesis entitled "Study of Building Blocks Suitable for Preparation of Functional Receptor Materials for Sensorics". The award was presented to Karolina by the French ambassador Stéphane Crouzat. Congratulations!

We recently published a study concerning novel fluorinated disaccharides in the prestigious journal Bioorganic Chemistry. The study demonstrates that the stereoselective introduction of fluorine into carbohydrate molecules could be an advantageous approach to modulating biological activity.

***

On May 16th, 2024 Vojta Hamala successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis titled “Synthesis of ruthenium-carbohydrate conjugates as antimetastatic and cytostatic agents with an enhanced selectivity for cancer cells”. Many congratulations to Dr. Vojtěch Hamala!
